Amanda Decker.... Her
Story |
Amanda Lynn Decker is 14 years old. When she was 2 1/2
months old she got very sick with RSV and ended up in the
hospital. While there her heart stopped and they had to
bring her back. She was then diagnosed with a heart disease
called Restricted Cardiomyopathy, from then on she was in
Syracuse Hospital off and on, until 11 months old when they
finally shipped us to NYC to be evaluated for a heart
transplant. She recieved her transplant on November 3, 1998.
She still has to go for biopsys, echos, ekgs, and X-rays
every 3 to 4 months because of her recent slight rejections.
She takes rejection medicines for the rest of her life,
she takes 6 in the morning and 6 at night. She has her
biopsys at Childrens Hospital at Columbia Presbyterian in
New York City. When they do a biopsy they go in her groin or
neck to her heart to snip a piece of it to check for bad
cells that may be attacking her heart. In the last 2 years
she has been having slight rejection so has needed her
biopsy every 3 months and blood work every couple weeks to
check her medicine levels. She is in 8th grade and she works
very hard at school. She is a high honor student and loves
to dance and sing |
